The Coen Brothers' upcoming film, Inside Llewyn Davis, staring Justin Timberlake and Carey Mulligan along with the title character played by Oscar Issac, opens in New York and Los Angeles on Friday.

It follows Llewyn Davis, a folk singer (loosely based on folk icon Dave Van Ronk and inspired by his posthumous memoir The Mayor of MacDougal Street) living in New York's Greenwich Village in 1961, right before Bob Dylan's emergence into the folk scene.

A cover of Hedy West's folk classic "Five Hundred Miles," performed by Timberlake, Mulligan and Stark Sands premiered yesterday in a clip from the film. It shows the three musicians (Jim, Jean and Troy) performing at the famed Gaslight Café.

If you can't imagine Timberlake as a folk singer, you're in for a pleasant surprise. His take on the song is humble and raw, a deviation from the pop and R&B vocals audiences for which he is known.

The film's soundtrack, which is out now, was directed by T Bone Burnett and co-produced by Mulligan's husband, Marcus Mumford. John Goodman, F. Murray Abraham, Adam Driver and Alex Karpovsky also appear in the film.
