Rumors over the Associated Press indicate that Missy Elliott will be a "surprise" performer with Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz at this year's Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday.

According to reports from Billboard, an anonymous source told the AP that Elliott would joining Perry onstage. Although the lack of a name to attribute to the source is somewhat sketchy, the folks over at the AP usually have their stuff together so we're willing to accept this as a likely reality. Perry acknowledged that there would definitely be another performer aside from Kravitz, who she invited to the game last month, and her hints definitely suggest Elliott as a likely option.

"I have to keep some surprises...this guest, though, I thought long and hard about it. I wanted to bring someone back, a throwback of sorts," she said at her official Super Bowl press conference on Thursday. "When you hear the first ring of the chord, jaws will drop and faces will melt."

Although this could totally be a front for Joan Jett appearing (based on the "face melting" clue), we're assuming Perry is indeed speaking about Elliott, as the pop star already has a guitarist joining her in Kravitz. We also suppose that "first chord" she's referring to will be from the emcee's hit "Work It" in the form of its freak 'em-sitar synth line (presuming they skip the "pick up your phone, I'm on the request line" bit).

Perry and Elliott have worked together before, as the emcee made an appearance on the remix of Perry's 2011 track "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)."

As for other details about what to expect on Sunday night, Perry hinted at bringing "lions and sharks" to the performance, which we can only hope is a mislead (for both the performers and animals' sake). One thing not to expect: Anything of the stage set from his "Prismatic" tour, which was grandiose but apparently has nothing on this year's Super Bowl performance.
