Skrillex and Giorgio Moroder will be teaming up for a new project, although it's not as huge as a you might imagine from such a powerhouse team: The pair will work together on creating a soundtrack for a forthcoming Tron video game title.

According to what Moroder told Clash magazine, the resulting sound will sound much more like his classic electronic work than Skrillex's dubstep style.

"I'm going to meet Skrillex next week when I'm back," he said in the interview (said meeting has since, presumably, taken place). "I'm doing the music for a game for Disney's Tron. We have about five themes, electronic stuff and let's see if he's interested in remixing or re-working one of the songs."

Four video games have been released based around the Tron series, including two titles to coincide with the release of the 2010 film Tron: Legacy. None of them have put much emphasis on the score however, until now. The original film was released during 1982 sand featured an acclaimed score from Wendy Carlos, the influential electronic artist behind films such as A Clockwork Orange and The Shining as well. She hasn't put out any new releases since Rediscovering Lost Scores, a compilation of her older work, during 2005. Moroder should provide a safe replacement for the vibe of the Tron series, although John Carpenter's Lost Themes album has turned us back onto him as well recently.

Hopefully Skrillex will be able to bring just enough modern thump to Moroder's work without overriding the electronica vibe.

Moroder has been in the headlines more recently than he had for decades before: Daft Punk paid tribute to him on its album Random Access Memories, and he'll be releasing his first solo album in 30 years with 74 Is The New 24, featuring guest spots from Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue among others.
