Referring to Nickelback as the worst band in the universe has kind of become clichéd but we'll give Relevant podcaster Jesse Carey a break because the theme plays into a charity event he's staging. The host will listen to the band for 168 consecutive hours, a week, to raise money for Water, a charity that works to bring clean H2O to areas around the world that are lacking otherwise.

The stunt began on Monday morning and will continue unabated for one week. So far, so good on the charity front: Carey has raised $18,001 (as of publication time) on his fundraising page (which you can visit here if you're feeling gracious). The site's goal listed an initial goal of $10,000, which is apparently enough for one well. Assuming that contributions continue at a steady rate, he'll definitely be able to fund at least two-plus wells by week's end. Some donors have been particularly moved by Carey's ambition, with user "Blong Kong" donating an epic $1,000.

The process itself will be relatively simple, as Carey opened with Nickelback's lesser known 1996 debut Curb and continuing through last year's No Fixed Address on repeat. Assuming he sticks to just the band's studio albums, we've calculated that he'll get through Nickelback's entire catalogue around 28.75 times. Carey made light of the "threats" to his health that such a challenge will involve:

"It was a long, and perilous night, but day has broken and I AM STILL ALIVE," he tweeted on Monday. "Woke up thinking this was all just a bad dream, but then the music JUST KEPT PLAYING."

Nickelback itself has long gotten over the fact that everyone claims to hate them, and has a rather good sense of humor about it nowadays. The band probably feels bette about this instance thanks to the charitable aspect of the situation. Plus, assuming Carey uses Spotify or a similar streaming service to play the music, Nickelback will earn around $20.25 from the streams.

OK, not that great from a financial standpoint.
