Steven Adler lent his percussion skills to some of the early albums by hard rock heroes Guns N' Roses. The most notable was the band's seminal 1987 release Appetite for Destruction. Although the original lineup has not performed together since the early 1990s, Adler is still holding out for a GNR reunion. He even thinks an album made by the classic lineup would be better than Appetite, saying that it would blow the album away.

Adler sat down with Mitch Lafon recently to talk about the band as well as his sobriety.

"As of today, I have four hundred and four days sober, and I have never been happier, I have never played better or had more fun playing," he said. "I mean, if we did ever do a reunion, or if we even made a record again together, the GNR guys, I think it would blow Appetite for Destruction away."

The drummer added that when the group made Appetite, they were barely adults. Now, all the members -- Slash, Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan -- have been through some serious ups and downs. Those experiences could make one "bigger, kick-ass record."

Current Guns guitarist Richard Fortus recently said that Rose would only reunite with the band for the sake of art, and money would have nothing to do with it. Adler suggested one big reason to do a reunion show would be the fans.

"I think if we did a reunion show, or shows, it would definitely be for the fans. I mean, we've lived our dream lives. Everything we dreamed about we have experienced -- good or bad. Sometimes you don't know what you want when you dream things. But we've experienced it and done it. We owe it to the fans," he said.

For now, a reunion continues to look unlikely. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, but Rose declined the honor. Stradlin opted not to attend the ceremony as well. Slash, McKagan and Adler performed alongside former members Gilby Clarke and Matt Sorum. Myles Kennedy, who performs with Slash nowadays, stood in for Rose.
