An unknown, previously unreleased Talking Heads song has surfaced online. The Talking Heads fan site reports that the 5-minute-long song being called "Theme" is an instrumental piece that was only recorded live when the band opened two sets for Television at New York City's famed club CBGB on July 30, 1976.

In the recording, which was only one year after the band's very first gig in 1975, you can hear David Byrne introduce the song. , "This is an instrumental," he says. An audience member pipes up, "No title?," and Byrne responds, "We call it 'Theme,' but then we just keep it to ourselves."

According to the fan site it isn't verified if the same song was played during the second set. It's never entirely clear why a band or artist might choose to release certain tracks and decide to set others to the side or only play some songs live. Talking Heads released plenty of amazing songs throughout the years, though, and David Byrne continues to be a prolific individual in the music industry.

Talking Heads, known for major hits like "Psycho Killer" and "Burning Down the House," released eight studio albums before going on hiatus in 1988. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

It would be interesting to hear Byrne's response to this recent release online. He would likely be flashed back to a different time, when Talking Heads, Blondie, The Ramones and Television were creating a epic movement in music.
