Kim Gordon isn't the only fabulous female rocker who can write and release a revelatory tell-all memoir. Now, Chrissie Hynde is looking to get in on the book game, too. Earlier this week, Penguin Random House announced that The Pretenders frontwoman will be releasing her own memoir this summer.

The New York Times reports that Hynde's memoir will be "an incredibly frank, intimate and witty" tale of growing up in Akron, Ohio, in the 1950s and coming up in the London punk rock music scene of the 1970s as a woman.

The book will also spill details on the 1970 shootings at Kent State University, which Hynde witnessed as a student.

The book, which has yet to receive a title, is due to be an engaging and honets effort, something Hynde made sure of when penning the work. "I'm approaching writing this memoir much the same way as I would an album. I hope it makes you want to dance, have fun, dig out some old records and maybe even root through your closet and dust off your guitar," she said in a statement.

Hynde's memoir will be released on Sept. 8. She follows a slew of female musicians with memoirs, including Gordon, Patti Smith and Linda Ronstadt, all of whom were instrumental in the rock 'n' roll scene of the latter half of the 20th century.
