Neil Patrick Harris fans were over the moon last fall when he confirmed that he had signed on the dotted line to host the Oscars, but if they are hoping for a repeat performance, it is looking pretty unlikely. While Harris was hit with a mixed bag of thoughts on his Oscar night performance, he has not let any of the negative press bother him too much. It is also not the reason why it is unlikely that he will return to host the biggest night in Hollywood again. He said of hosting, "It's a beast."

In an exclusive interview with Huffington Post, Harris said, "I don't know that my family nor my soul could take it. It's a beast. It was fun to check off the list, but for the amount of time spent and the understandable opinionated response, I don't know that it's a delightful balance to do every year or even again. My job was to try and keep things as light and specific to this year's set of films as possible. And if people are critical of that, it's a big giant platform, so I would assume that they would be."

It actually kind of makes sense that the Oscars could be one of those things that is one-and-done for Harris. While being a master of ceremonies has become part of what Harris is known for, he also does not just stick around to collect a check.

If this year's Oscar telecast felt overwhelming to him and the audience's reaction was mixed anyway, then it is probably best for everyone if someone else picks up the gig next year.
