Emeline Michel and Marc Ribot will perform The Music of Frantz Casseus: Father of Haitian Classical Guitar as a part of the Greenwich House Music School’s Uncharted Concert Series.

Guitar legend Ribot and Haitian songstress Michel will pay tribute to Casseus, who is not only a Haitian guitar icon but Ribot’s mentor. As a teen, Ribot played guitar in various garage bands while studying with guitarist and composer Casseus. Ribot moved to New York City in 1978, when Ribot was a member of the soul/punk Realtones, and from 1984-89 he was with John Lurie's Lounge Lizards.

Ribot is also known for his work as a side musician with Tom Waits, Brother Jack McDuff, Wilson Pickett, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas, Chuck Berry and others. He continued working as the go-to guitar guy for all kinds of roots-music adventurers: Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello and John Mellencamp.

Ribot frequently collaborates with producer T Bone Burnett, most notably on Alison Krauss and Robert Plant's Grammy Award-winning Raising Sand.

Michel is the reigning queen of Haitian song: a captivating performer, versatile vocalist and one of the premier Haitian songwriters of her generation. For more than 20 years, Michel has recorded and appeared on concert stages throughout the Caribbean, Europe and North and South America.
