Wayne Static mixed prescription medication with alcohol before he died in November, Blabbermouth reports. According to official documents filed by the investigating coroner, Static had oxycodone, Xanax and alcohol in his system. While his drinking had become a problem, his wife, Tera Wray, said that they had both given up illicit drugs in 2009.
The official timeline maintains that the couple went to bed at 7 a.m. on Nov. 1 at their home in Landers, California. Wray said that Static had crushed up half of a 30 mg oxy pill and took it with an unknown amount of alcohol. Wray woke up around 3:30 p.m. and found her husband dead, calling 911 shortly thereafter. Medical personnel said ruled out foul play and said there were no signs of a struggle.
According to the report, Wray said that Static "took oxycodone, Xanax (alprazolam) and alcohol to relieve panic attacks. He took Xanax on a daily basis and was compliant with the prescribed dosage. His wife stated he would occasionally have his own prescription for oxycodone, but he would usually take hers. The decedent also had a history of gynecomastia... His wife stated both she and the decedent had a history of cocaine and ecstasy abuse, but they stopped using illicit drugs in 2009."
Static's mother said his drinking had been a problem for two years, calling him an alcoholic. The family did not think Static was suicidal.
The 48-year-old rock star, best known for his work with Static-X, was getting ready to hit the road with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool prior to his death. Following his unfortunate passing, Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix posted online that Static's death was due to an overdose. He later apologized since nothing had been confirmed at that time.
"Wayne was not taking drugs. If anything, he was a drinker, and did not OD," Wray wrote in November. "We all know that both Wayne and I had abused narcotics with alcohol in the past, which I am sure took a toll on his body, heart and soul."
