The Brit Awards nominees are out and Harriet Gibsone was there to capture the artists' reactions to their nominations for The Guardian. The musicians also spoke of highlights from past Brit Awards shows, and shared some other insights on music in general. You can see the complete list of nominees here for the show taking place February 19th at London's O2.

Jessie J is up for Best Female Solo Artist and is very impressed with the different sounds that were celebrated this year. Particularly, she's grateful that soul is coming back. Jessie J added: "People crave real. And I think that's what people love about British music. We're not perfect."

19-year-old Ella Eyre has collaborated with Bastille, Wiz Khalifa and Rudimenal. She's nominated for the Critics' Choice Award this year. "I came to The Brits two years ago on a school trip so to be sort of considered for awards and nominated and doing the media run is quite scary, but also really exciting how quickly things have happened for me," Eyre says. She remembers filming Adele performing "Someone Like You" and crying.

Sam Smith, also up for Critics' Choice, says: "I'm so honest with my music. Right now, my album's about me being lonely...Next year, I could start wearing dresses!" He remembers a highlight from past Brit Awards to be Lady Gaga's performance when she did the Alex McQueen tribute.

Ellie Goulding is in two British music categories: Best Female Solo Artist and Single. It will be her first time performing and she's excited. "I feel ready. I feel like it's my time to do it," she says. She was stumped when asked if she'll do anything rebellious at the show to get attention.

Rudimental is nominated for British Group of the Year, British Single of the Year and British Album of the Year. It's been a long time in the making for the group, who were all friends before they took off as a band. They've been together about 7 years. So, they said they might strip nude if they win. (Ella Eyre joked she could join them.)

We will be sure to update you on what actually ends up unfolding that night.
