5 Seconds of Summer are hard at work on the follow-up to their 2014 debut eponymous album. This time around they're getting help from a famous rock veteran --none other than Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx. Sixx revealed the news on Twitter following the band's iHeartRadio appearance, where they won for Best Fan Army.

"Congrats @5sos on your award Nice Crüe shirt too," he tweeted along with a photo of the boys onstage. "See yah next week for some lyric writing.@iHeartRadio #iHeartAwards."

Sixx, who is currently on tour for Mötley Crüe's last shows, looks like he wants to give back to younger generations now that the band is in its final months. He is also involved with his own band, Sixx:A.M., and is the subject of VH1's upcoming episode of Rock Icons.

Meanwhile, 5SOS recently spoke with Billboard about their sophomore effort.

"We've written most of it, and we're recording it now. We'll release it when it's right, whether it's on the tour or at the end of the tour," guitarist Michael Clifford said. "New music will definitely be out this year."

In addition to Sixx, the band has tapped other collaborators including Joel and Benji Madden as well as producer John Feldman.

"They've had a big role in the album this time, even more so than the last album," lead vocalist Luke Hemmings said of the Maddens. "It's been really fun. We really look up to them, their whole movement as a band. It's amazing they're on board with us. They're great dudes."

Their debut self-titled album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. They live album, LiveSOS, reached No. 13 after it was released in December.

No word yet on a release date, title, tracklist, or artwork for the upcoming effort, but we'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
