Los Angeles rapper The Game -- real name Jayceon Terrell Taylor -- is reportedly being sued by a cop after an altercation at a pickup basketball game that allegedly led to the "Hate It or Love It" rapper punching the police officer in the head. The officer, who was off duty at the time -- not like these Philadelphia policemen -- alleged that the altercation may have caused brain damage.

According to the lawsuit filed Monday, April 6, and obtained by TMZ, rookie cop Onyebuchi Awayi claimed The Game sucker punched him and fled the scene as soon as he heard that Awayi's fellow policemen were on the way.

At the time of the incident, TMZ cited sources close to The Game, who said Taylor acted in self-defense, claiming that Awayi verbally threatened the rapper, insinuating that he had a gun in his bag.

You can watch the incident in the video below, where you see the punch being thrown, but you are not likely to get the full interaction between the two men throughout the basketball match and any words that might have been said.

The Game has not commented on the situation yet, but we will see if this goes to court.

The L.A. rapper released his latest album Blood Moon: Year of the Wolf, the first on his newly formed Blood Money Entertainment imprint, in October. He plans to follow that up with the follow-up to his breakout studio effort The Documentary.

Ten years after the release of the first edition, The Documentary 2 will be released in June with the help of longtime producer friends Timbaland, Swizz Beatz and Dr. Dre plus Kanye West. He has also gotten some work in with Just Blaze and Scott Storch on the album.
