Kanye West gave Armenian fans several surprises over the weekend, first staging an impromptu concert and then by jumping into a lake during the middle of it (from Billboard).

According to an Instagram post from his wife, Kim Kardashian, she wasn't even aware that the show was about to occur, noting that West told her to throw on some sweats before they headed out to downtown Yerevan, the capital and largest city in the European nation.

The show featured West performing hits such as "Power," "Stronger" and—as will soon become relevant—"Jesus Walks." It took place outside of the famous Armenian Opera Theatre.

"It's a problem," he said, referring to the difficulty some fans had seeing the performer due to the nature of the venue. "Can y'all see me over there? We're going to do something different, like, like, like we always do."

We're not sure that the emcee's solution to the issue necessarily, but it certainly got attention in the media: He jumped in Swan Lake, a shallow pond on the southeast side of the opera house. He didn't walk on the water per se but it was shallow enough that he safely continue his performance. Safe as in, we still don't recommend that you ever take a live microphone into a pond, not to mention that the current temperature in Yerevan is 46 degree (Farenheit), meaning it was almost certainly colder when West did it at night (having attended Ohio State University, your correspondent can report that jumping in a cold lake might seem like an awesome idea at the time, but it results in the flu afterward).

Naturally the Armenian fan base for West decided to follow the rapper into the lake, leading to police shut down the show.
