Patti Smith's 2010 memoir Just Kids won a slew of awards and accolades for the singer, making her an in-demand author with stories to tell. According to Billboard, the Horses singer has another one ready to go titled M Train. The new book is described as a "sequel" to Just Kids, which recounted her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe in the 1960s and '70s. It is due out in October.

M Train will focus on Smith's later years, including the death of husband Fred "Sonic" Smith, who had played in the influential group MC5.

"M Train is a journey through 18 'stations.' It begins in the tiny Greenwich Village café where Smith goes every morning for black coffee, ruminates on the world as it is and the world as it was and writes in her notebook. We then travel, through prose that shifts fluidly between dreams and reality, past and present, across a landscape of creative aspirations and inspirations," the description reads.

Smith received the National Book Award for Just Kids in addition to making the New York Times Bestseller list. Rolling Stone ranked the book No. 2 on its list of the 25 Greatest Rock Memoirs of All Time. Fans can expect the same ferocity and beauty in the punk poet's follow-up.

"Woven throughout are reflections on the writer's craft and on artistic creation, alongside signature memories including her life in Michigan with her husband, guitarist Fred 'Sonic' Smith, whose untimely death was an irremediable loss. For it is loss, as well as the consolation we might salvage from it, that lies at the heart of this exquisitely told memoir, one augmented by stunning black-and-white Polaroids taken by Smith herself," the description adds.

M Train is due out Oct. 6.

Smith is also slated to induct Lou Reed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this weekend, April 18. That ceremony will premiere on HBO next month.
