Veteran musician Cher has expressed her support for Heidi Shink, a candidate for West Hollywood City Council. The "Believe" singer, who released her latest album Closer to the Truth in 2013, endorsed Shink for a seat on the council.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cher said:

"West Hollywood has a very special place in my heart. I began my career here, playing at places like the Whisky a Go Go and the Troubadour, and I have many friends and fans who call West Hollywood home," she told THR. "Even more importantly, this city is where my son Chaz [Bono] has chosen to live, where he feels accepted and safe. My most significant role in life is that of a mother and, like any mom, I value my child's happiness above all else. That's why it is so crucial to me who is on the West Hollywood City Council and that's why this June election is so vital. I urge everyone to vote for Heidi."

Cher's most recent and 25th studio album Closer to the Truth was released on iTunes in September 2013. The 14-track deluxe version includes tracks like "Woman's World."

Cher's endorsement of Shink does not stop there: The singer is also hosting a fundraiser for the candidate April 18, according to THR. Cher shared her positive experiences with Shink and why she thinks Shink is the elected official West Hollywood needs.

"I've known Heidi for 30 years," Cher told THR. "I've seen her early activism in the 1980s, admired her extensive advocacy work for numerous social justice causes in the '90s and watched her develop into what she is now: A full-fledged public servant on a national, state and local level. I know the enormous integrity with which Heidi conducts her life firsthand, and it shows me how she will serve on council. West Hollywood needs Heidi to take the city into its next great era."
