Meek Mill left prison in December after serving five months in prison in relation to a 2008 drug and gun conviction—he violated his probation following that incident, which is why he was locked up again. The rapper is back to living the good life—he is getting ready to release his second solo album, Dream Worth More Than Money, and head out on tour with his new girlfriend Nicki Minaj. Mill spoke with XXL in a new interview recently about his time in prison and how it changed him.

"Being that I went to jail and came back, I went through a whole new experience in life. I went from being at the top to back down at the bottom again. In jail, you get stripped of your freedom and everything, so I experienced different things, learned more," he said.

Mill added that living the life of a famous rapper had erased the hunger that got him to that point. Prison brought that hunger back.

The rapper had time to reflect in prison, saying he has changed for the better.

"I figured myself out before that. Somebody from my hood come at me right now, I know that I don't wanna go through it with [them] right now. I know all I really wanna do is get money and take care of my family," he added. "Me, really, I was confused, trying to be somebody in the street, make people in the streets look at me in a certain way, at the same time, I'm rapping. But that ain't what I do no more."

The "aww" moment of the interview came when Mill shared some details about his relationship with Minaj. He admitted that it is weird seeing pictures of the two "coupled up," but he does not mind.

"Yeah, I tell her that. I'm like, 'I don't really hold hands, but like, I'll hold hands with you.' She know that. Like, I don't really do things, but certain people make you do certain little stuff and it be like, 'Sh*t, I don't care.' They can catch me in the pictures doing anything nowadays, holding an umbrella for Nicki, you know what I'm saying?" he said.
