Oscar-winning rapper/actor Common will be joining David Ayers's Suicide Squad, the Warner Bros. action film featuring DC Entertainment super-villains. The exact role Common will play is currently being kept under wraps, but we'll let you know as soon as it's revealed. Fellow musicians Jared Leto and Will Smith have already signed on for the parts of the Joker and Deadshot respectively, The Hollywood Reporter revealed.

Other cast members include Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis, Adam Beach, Ike Barinholtz, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Scott Eastwood with rumored cameos from Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Ben Affleck as Batman.

Common is currently acting alongside Liam Neeson in Run All Night. He previously acted in the acclaimed civil rights movie Selma, for which he also penned the song "Glory" with John Legend that won an Oscar for Best Original Song. Next up for him is Hunter Killer with director Martin Campbell and star Gerard Butler.

As SlashFilms points out, Common almost found himself in the DC Universe once before. Around 2007, he was cast as Green Lantern/John Stewart in a Justice League movie, but the project fell apart due to the WGA strike, and Common never ended up playing the iconic superhero.

He did say that he would one day like to play John Stewart, but it isn't likely (though not impossible) that it will be the role he'll play in Suicide Squad.

Suicide Squad is now in production in Toronto and is expected to be released on August 5, 2016.
