What Happened, Miss Simone?, a documentary based on the life of iconic multi-genre vocalist Nina Simone, will get a widespread debut on Netflix and in some theaters on June 26, according to Rolling Stone.

The film will give plenty of attention to Simone's career singing jazz, blues, R&B and whatever came across her desk, using the vocalist's own words whenever possible from previous interviews, set over archival concert footage and recordings of her hits and rarities. The film was directed by Liz Garbus, a filmmaker who has made a name for herself in documentaries, previously at the helm for Bobby Fischer Against The World and Killing In The Name.

Regardless of the time dedicated to Simone's stunning stage presence, in this day and age many will be more interested in the the light shone upon the performer's notorious temper. During 1985 she attempted to shoot a record executive over alleged stolen royalties, and in 1995 she wounded a neighbor with an air rifle when he "disturbed her concentration." Simone's daughter, Lisa Simone Kelly, is one of the key commentators throughout the film.

"People think that when she went out onstage, she became Nina Simone," she says in the trailer (which you can see below). "My mother was Nina Simone 24/7, and that's where it became a problem. Everything fell apart."

Simone passed away from breast cancer during 2003 at the age of 70.

This film will have to tide over the fans who are waiting anxiously for the biopic version of Simone's life, which has been in the works for years. Mary J. Blige was originally slotted to play the star but she was later replaced with Zoe Saldana, which angered some fans. It received a screening at the Cannes Film Festival last year but has not been green lit for theaters yet.
