Just when we thought Camp Bisco was dead in the water, the much-maligned festival relocates and makes a huge announcement. After being chased out of Upstate New York due to considerable drug and safety concerns expressed by local and state officials, the three-day camping music celebration has relocated to Montage Mountain in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The news of its move to where The Office is filmed was revealed yesterday when fans unlocked the clue in a cryptic crossword, later confirmed by the festival on its official Instagram page. In addition to announcing the dates and location, Bisco has also announced the first wave of artists who will be headed to Montage Mountain in July. Among those included are Bassnectar, Pretty Lights and festival mainstays The Disco Biscuits.
The festival has tipped from a primarily jamband event hosted by The Disco Biscuits to a much more EDM-centric event, with a wide variety of sub-genres represented. Other acts who are on the bill include, Goldroom, Big Gigantic, Atmosphere, Sweater Beats, Snails, Jauz, Lido, Kill The Noise, Tipper, Sound Remedy and ILoveMakonnen.
Camp Bisco was canceled in 2014 after local officials did not grant permits to the festival over lingering concerns from several incidents in the past few years including one in 2012 that left a Schenectady woman in a coma. Pending litigation against the prior festival owners, MCP Presents, claim that emergency responders took too long to reach the woman.
To return to Indian Lookout in 2015, the new owners, Frank Potter and Ken Hays would have had to meet new contractual requirements that included an increased police presence and drug-sniffing dogs. They apparently decided to skip out on the extra regulations and go elsewhere - a truly capitalist thing to do.
Tickets will go on sale via the Camp Bisco website this Friday, May 1. Three-day GA passes start at $139. The festival will take place from July 16-18.
