The Denver Broncos may have failed to show up to the first half of the Super Bowl, but halftime performer Bruno Mars came in full force. Joining the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince and Beyoncé, Mars and special guests The Red Hot Chili Peppers dominated the Pepsi Halftime Show at Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday night (Feb. 2).

Beginning with a slightly ominous turn from a children's choir singing "Billionaire" and telling the world to prepare, 28-year-old Mars started off his show with a bombastic, slightly EDM-influenced drum solo. Rocking out like no other, Mars blasted through the instrumentation of his No. 1 hit "Locked Out Of Heaven" as the drumset backed into the stage.

Soon, joined by his Hooligans backing band Mars blasted through "Locked Out Of Heaven," shaking his hips in that old school, grandma shocking way (reminiscent of his Elvis impersonating days) as fireworks exploded in the background.

In a seamless tradition (as the Super Bowl is apt to do with halftime shows), Mars moved smoothly into his '70s-inspired Unorthodox Jukebox single "Treasure," complete with funky dance moves and a big ol' smile.

Then, things got truly "turnt up" (as the kids say) when Mars performed his signature live track and Doo Wops and Hooligans cut "Runaway Baby." Though the song isn't incredibly well known, Mars brought 110 percent to his performance, running about the stage and hyping up the entire country.

Near the end of the song, Mars asked fans to "give it away now" in the traditional style of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, who rose from the stage to seamlessly transition into its 1991 signature hit "Give It Away."

Remarkably not wearing a shirt in winter weather, Anthony Kiedis and crew reminded music fans why they've lasted 20-some years in the game with a high energy performance that rivaled Mars' unending energy.

After the dose of Chili Pepper came and went, a tribute to American soldiers and their families played on the jumbo-tron before Mars took mid-field to perform his chart topping single "Just The Way You Are." The entire package was enough to bring a tear to even the coldest person's eye.

And, just as soon as the halftime show began, it was over.
