When Meek Mill gifted Nicki Minaj with that honking 15-carat heart-shaped diamond ring in April, it seemed like wedding bells were on the horizon for the hip-hop couple. But, as it turns out, the diamond was more of a promise ring and less of an engagement ring.
Meek Mill covers this month's issue of Fader, and in the lengthy profile, the "Monster" rapper revealed that while he and Minaj are serious about each other, they aren't quite yet discussing marriage.
"It's definitely real, but it ain't really time to get married yet," Mill said. "We're still learning each other, feeling each other out."
As soon as Minaj tweeted about a big ring and a great night in Miami with her new beau, engagement rumors quickly surrounded the couple, as reports spread wildly about the upcoming nuptials. Everyone from Mill's grandmother to Drake believed that the couple was engaged.
"Whatever she sees on TV, she believes," Mill said about his grandma, who called him about his pending marriage.
Though Mill and Minaj may not be engaged (yet), the Fader profile gave some insight into the two's relationship. Mill's label Atlantic Records is glad that his high-profile girlfriend keeps him in the headlines, and the two also have a loving working relationship.
At one point, Minaj helps Mill pick the next single off his upcoming album, a pop effort. And she's dead set on "All Eyes on You" over another track, "Bad." The next single goes up to a vote, and Minaj sways the room.
"Every hand went up, baby. Now you got a roomful of honest opinions. You can take it or leave it," she said.
And it seems like these two are quite taken, even if there is no wedding day in sight.
