Bonnaroo came and went this past weekend and while many attendees are still making their way home and piecing their lives back together, the rest of us are ogling over live footage from the various Super Jams, live premieres and impromptu guest appearances that are customary on The Farm. One of the artists that used the massive platform that is Bonnaroo to premiere some music was Childish Gambino. He took the stage on Saturday night and appeared to open his set with a brand new track that would indicate a brand new direction with his music.

The soulful six-minute track is very different from the material we are accustomed to hearing from Childish Gambino the rapper. There is no rapping at all and features Gambino singing in various forms, mostly falsetto over a horn-filled beat. Watch the video below via Complex.

Word was leaked recently from a member of 50-man strong chorus that Childish Gambino, real name Donald Glover, was working on a new album. They recorded for five different tracks, though we don't have much more information then that.

Glover also hinted at the new direction back in February when he told the Today Show that he said he was thinking of retiring the name Childish Gambino. "I feel like Childish Gambino is a period that should come to a close," noting, "I like endings."

However he still wants to be involved in music in some capacity or another, more specifically as a producer.

"I always want to do music, I love music ... and I want to produce."

If this is new Childish Gambino, it could be his last hurrah under his name. If so, it is sounding pretty great for a first glimpse.
