Back in March, Rage against the Machine frontman Tom Morello shared a photo of him working with American bass don, Bassnectar working in the studio "rocking some brutal rifftastic futurebangerz." In anticipation of the "Vava Voom" producer's upcoming album Into The Sun's release on June 30, Bassnectar spoke to Rolling Stone about his work with Morello and Dave Grohl's unwavering push back against electronic music.

The collaboration was actually initiated by Morello, who is a fan of Bassnectar, real name Lorin Ashton.

"It was so special getting a phone call from him in his crazy deep voice and having him start off saying, 'Oh, I'm such a fan,'" Ashton describes. "You could tell he wasn't faking it because he starts referencing different songs and different bass lines of different songs. You quickly realize, 'Woah! He is not only a fan, he is really fucking educated [on electronic music].'"

The two are collaborating on a still-unnamed project that Morello has been putting together with a slew of other electronic music producers.

"[Morello]'s working on this really cool project where he's working with multiple electronic music producers to create electronic songs that he can recreate live on this super, perverted, unexplainable, bastardized guitar mutant instrument thing," Ashton explains.

Compared to Morello's progressive outlook on electronic music, one of the titans of rock music, Dave Grohl, has been stubbornly unwilling to accept the growth of the genre.

It's pretty disappointing watching certain classic heroes of rock music miss the boat," he says. "Like Dave Grohl, who on a personal level [is] a great guy and on a musical level, he's a legend. But he's gone out of his way to really publicly dismiss new generations of creativity."

Morello has not been keeping his work with some of the biggest names in electronic music a secret. He was seen in the studio with Skrillex and Jahlil Beats in April and the hip-hop producer even shared a short clip of their track on Instagram. Knife Party played a short clip of their collaboration with the famed Rage Against the Machine frontman at Kings Day Festival in Holland at the end of April.

Further details about the project are still unknown, but with these names on the track list, expect something big in this next chapter from Morello.
