If you've ever felt like you're self-sabotaging in a relationship, don't worry. Shawn Mendes knows how you're feeling. Today (June 25), the former Vine star dropped the latest music video from his debut album Handwritten, and it will leaves both him and viewers in total "Stitches" (at least emotionally).

To follow up "Aftertaste," Mendes moves away from his dramatic saga and goes it solo for a music video. The concept for "Stitches" is fairly simple. Mendes can be seen meandering around a parking garage, and seemingly because of nothing, the 16-year-old singer-songwriter starts getting beat up by some sort of invisible force.

Is it his own conscious? The past? A ghost? Someone in a Harry Potter style invisibility cloak? The answer remains unclear, but for almost the entirety of the videos four minutes, Mendes can be seen getting broken and bruised, with cuts marking up his otherwise baby smooth face.

It's heartbreaking to see Mendes hopeless in the fight against the otherworldly force (or perhaps himself), but even as he gets smashed into a car window, Mendes never seems to totally lose the fight or the hope.

After the relentless beating, Mendes walks away into a shoddy parking garage bathroom to wash the blood off his face.

But then, well, there's another paranormal twist and a mysterious look to the camera. What really just happened? This feels like an American Psycho level twist.

"Stitches" is the latest single from Shawn Mendes' debut album Handwritten. It follows the release of "Life of the Party" and "Something Big."
