The world of vinyl collecting isn't as simple as owning a 12" version of Elephant versus owning a CD-copy of Elephant: It's about owning a vinyl copy of Elephant that's half red and half black, versus just black. Bands and record pressers are always looking for a new way to make their LPs the hot new thing, whether it's a new color or a new method of creating a pattern. Perfect Pussy, a Syracuse-based punk band, has come up with a new, bold idea: vinyl mixed with blood

The band's LP Say Yes to Love will be released on March 18, and a limited edition package will include a translucent 12" record, featuring red streaks. Those streaks are vocalist Meredith Graves' blood. Records are made by pressing tracks into warmed up vinyl, and you can add details by drizzling fancifully-colored liquid into the mix. So yes, Graves donated enough blood to sprinkle onto to 300 records.

Metal bands have long tried to make vinyl more hardcore, whether it be by using spooky colors or by adding a red blood-splatter effect to clear vinyl (see White Zombie's Astro-Creep: 2000), but Perfect Pussy has really taken the cake with this one.

The bad news: The limited edition package-which also included a cassette of the album, a cassette of bonus tracks, a pin and a poster-sold out fast via pre-order. The good news: You'll probably see it up on eBay as soon as its released. More bad news: The bidding will probably escalate to absurd levels.

The final good news, for fans of the band: If you're really in it because you appreciate Perfect Pussy's music, you can still get a copy of the regular 12", albeit only on regular white vinyl.
