Zac Brown Band

Happy Birthday to Coy Bowles of the Zac Brown Band!

Coy, who plays guitar, organ, and writes songs for the Zac Brown Band turns 36 today. The Georgia native started playing guitar when he was 11 and two years later, he had formed a band called Betty Doom. The punk rock group played at local churches and at friend's birthday parties in Thomaston.

At West GA College, Coy met Zac shortly before he took a year off of school to spend more time working on his guitar and piano skills. The eight hours of practice each day paid off and he went from studying biology at West GA to being in the Jazz Studies program at Georgia State University. After four years of playing guitar every day, he graduated and started Coy Bowles and The Fellowship. The band got a slot to open for Zac Brown Band at the Sky Bar in Auburn, Alabama and within a couple of weeks, Coy's phone was ringing. Zac told him that he liked what he was doing with the music and wanted him to either open for the band full time or join Zac Brown Band as a full time keyboard player. The rest, as they say, is history.
