The world of electronic music and streaming just got shaken up in a major way today. Beatport and Spotify have announced a new content distribution partnership involving both music and video content. The deal would open up Beatport's massive catalog of dance music songs, which grows at a rate of nearly 25,000 per week, to Spotify. This has been a gripe of many hardcore fans who don't want to wait for songs licensed exclusively to Beatport to be released on other portals.

This is huge for dance music fans that were on the fence about what streaming service to turn to amid the war among streaming services being waged right now between Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, Rdio, Rhapsody and others. This unlocks the long sought-after catalog of Beatport, which has music ranging from the biggest names in electronic music to the most obscure minimal and techno from all reaches of the globe.

The deal was announced in a press release this morning, marking the first time Spotify has partnered with another music streaming service. The collaboration will also bring Beatport's editorial voice to Spotify, which has a strong curation voice of its own. Beatport will create curated playlists from its own editorial team and host exclusive and premium content on the streaming service.

In addition to the move to share music content, Spotify will also be given access to the growing wealth of SFX, the parent company of Beatport, video content from its wide range of festivals.

"Spotify will be the first to access the latest need-to-know exclusive electronic music from Beatport and will also be able to watch to a mix of original festival and event video content," says Greg Consiglio, newly appointed President and CEO of Beatport.

Beatport has 5 million registered users of fans worldwide, which will plugin to Spotify's 20 million paying subscribers and 75 million active users.
