"Opera's coolest soprano" lauds the New York Times Magazine of Danielle de Niese, a singer who's best peformances have often come at the Metropolitan Opera. This Spring, the lovely soprano returns to New York City for two productions: The Enchanted Island and Cosi fan tutte.
These appearances follow last year's engagement in Così as well as her brilliant, last-minute turn as Cleopatra in the Met's production of Giulio Cesare (where she covered Handel's stuff for Natalie Dessay).
Jeremy Sams, another frequent Met success, will reinstall his 2012 version of The Enchanted Island. This modern pastiche opera, based on Shakespeare's The Tempest and A Midsummer Night's Dream, finds de Niese reprising her role as Ariel--opposite Susan Graham (Sycorax), David Daniels (Prospero) and the great Plácido Domingo (Neptune).
