Earlier today we reported that Bruce Springsteen would be releasing a new DVD of his tribute concert, as well as an EP on Record Store Day that will feature four new tracks. Soundgarden was apparently reading the news and decided that they would one-up that.

The first part of Soundgarden's 2014 release schedule will be three remastered options to mark the 20th anniversary of the band's seminal album Superunknown. The first will be a two-disc set featuring the original album and a collection of 16 unreleased demos (including ten never-before-heard tracks). The "Ultra-Deluxe" option will include five discs including even more demos and rehearsal tracks, plus the album mixed for Blu-ray Audio 5.1 Surround Sound. The "Ultra" version also comes with a book. If you want to just get the basic, remastered Superunknown, there will be a vinyl rerelease as well.

The whole deal will be available June 3.

Soundgarden is continuing the anniversary on Record Store Day by offering Superunknown: The Singles. The set will feature all five of the album's singles (and original B-sides) on five 10" records. Record Store Day will be on April 19 this year.

For the time being, the band has left us with a preview trailer for the deluxe editions, featuring a rehearsal for "The Day I Tried To Live," which was the second single released from the album. Obviously it's a rougher cut, and not on the same sonic level as the single you're familiar with, but Soundgarden nerds (ourselves included) go nuts for this sort of stuff.
