You may have been surprised to learn that Steve Martin and Edie Brickell had won the Grammy for Best American Roots Song (but admit it: You don't know much about any of the nominees for that award). By now, you shouldn't be surprised that Martin and his band, the Steep Canyon Rangers, along with Brickell will be touring the United States starting this month. And now that you know Martin is a banjo connoisseur, you're probably not surprised to hear he's working on a musical with Brickell as well. The comedian/musician hasn't given too many details on the latter project, but he gave some hints to Billboard

"There's sort of a new sound of a musical that's different from the big orchestra," he said. "It's got more of a pared-down orchestra with stringed instruments -in this case there will be the banjo, fiddle, cello, piano, maybe seven instruments. And the musicians will be on stage, integrated into the show."

Somehow he'll have to juggle planning the musical and touring for the next five months. Interestingly, Martin and co. won't be stopping in New York City-where the musical will eventually show of course-during the tour.
