It seems as though the follow up to Beyoncé's 2011 album 4 will never be released. After endless delays and changes of direction, news on a new release from Mrs. Carter is few and far between, excepting a few leaked demos.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Beyoncé has scrapped over 50 songs for her untitled fifth effort.
The scrapped songs seem to affect highly sought after writers, such as The-Dream, Sia, Ryan Tedder, Diane Warren, Ne-Yo and Diplo. This falls in line with what "Express Yourself" rapper Diplo told The Sun earlier this month.
"I just did two songs for her new album, well, I tried. I think she scrapped the record. The record was supposed to be done, and they have been hitting me up for brand new ideas," he said. As reported, the new effort may be in a bit of trouble. "I like to work from scratch, but sometimes I get called in to fix songs," Diplo added.
Ne-Yo also opened up about Beyoncé's changing direction to Billboard last month. "They're still trying to figure out what they want [the album] to be, which I'm not mad at. Beyoncé's the kind of artist where you're not gonna see it till it's right. And her fans -- they love her, so they'll be patient," he said.
To hold fans over, some new music has been teased. In addition to "Standing on the Sun," which has been heard in an H&M commercial and frequently live, the full version of "Grown Woman" has leaked.
Though the fifth Beyoncé album was supposed to drop in the final quarter of 2013, the 50-plus scrapped songs seem to indicate that Bey's dedicated fan base will have to wait a while longer for new music.
