Martin Garrix has taken a huge step in his career. The "Dragon" producer announced earlier today after weeks of rumors and speculation that he had in fact split from his longtime management team MusicAllStars and his record label Spinnin' Records. He cites the inability to gain control of his own records as the primary reason for the split.

In a Facebook post, Garrix outlined his side of the situation, saying "there was a difference of opinion between us regarding the reasonableness of the agreements." He goes on to say, "it was not possible to bridge out different views."

According to Garrix, he had been losing confidence in his management team MusicAllStars, which handles a lot of the artists signed to Spinnin' Records and has a very close relationship with the label. The primary reason though was Garrix's inability to get ownership rights of his tracks back from Spinnin' Records.

By all accounts, Garrix will still remain part of the Scooter Braun management umbrella.

The split marks the end of one of the most successful relationships in EDM over the past several years. Garrix was first signed to the label when he was in his early teens as a ghost producer. He had his first release on the label "BFAM" with Julian Jordan in 2012 and the relationship blossomed with hits like "Animals," "Tremor," "Gold Skies" and "Don't Look Down."

It would be odd for him to gain complete control of his records because that is all the entire label has at the end of the day. There must be more to the story that we aren't getting. If Spinnin' were to give back his records, then other artists might demand the same and it could set a dangerous precedent. Not even major pop acts with huge leverage like Kanye West and Rihanna have complete control over their records.

He does not disclose what the future holds, but a label could be in the cards if the Dutchman wants to own his music.
