Guitar Hero fans have long awaited a new game to shred to for hours on end and the latest announcement of artists has Pearl Jam, Passenger, My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, Haim and Lamb of God added to the Guitar Hero Live roster of artists.

Some of the lesser-known groups announced via a Billboard announcement include Surfer Blood, Orianthi, Tonight Alive, 36 Crazyfists and Wavves.

This eclectic group of bands and artists shows that the game will continue with a dedication to many different genres of music and keep up to date with newer bands than in previous iterations of the game. "Demon Dance" by Florida rockers Surfer Blood and "Demon To Lean On" by the California group Wavves in particular are exciting announcements for garage rock fans hoping to play songs beyond the realm of classic rock.

Taylor Swift openers Haim, is another welcome addition with its pop hit "The Wire," which sounds like it came straight out of the '80s girl pop era.

Activision is planning on releasing many more tracks over the coming weeks before the October 20 release date. This latest announcement puts them at over 100 songs on the tracklist.

Guitar Hero accumulated $2 billion in sales over seven years before discontinuing in 2011. The game is back with new songs and new game mechanics, including a new more realistic guitar that adds a new column of buttons simulating the multiple strings on a real guitar and the vertical movement needed to make chords. Gone too are the cheesy cartoon characters of old, replaced by a live version, where players perform in front of real recorded crowds reacting to your performance, and a music video setting, where fans strum along to the visuals of the group's music video.

Songs will also be released upon release of the game, continually updating with new songs for purchase on Guitar Hero TV (GHTV).
