The Decemberists' January album What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World was a lengthy effort - clocking in at 14 songs long and 53 minutes, but it turns out that isn't all the "Make You Better" band had to offer. On Friday (Sept. 11), the literary rockers announced a five-song EP Florasongs made from more cuts from the What A Terrible World... sessions and the first track "Why Would I Now?" has already been released.

Florasongs will contain five new songs from The Decemberists, Stereogum reports. Led by the new single "Why Would I Now?" Other tracks on the EP also include "The Harrowed and the Haunted" and "Riverswim."

As for "Why Would I Now?," the track finds The Decemberists keeping to the cool acoustic guitar-driven grooves of What A Terrible World... cut "The Singer Addresses His Audience" and while lead singer Colin Meloy sings about never straying too far away from his beloved wife and sons.

"Have I ever stood back and watched you fall / Ditched your call / Cut your bid rounds / Why would I now," he sings with a peppy beat and simplistic piano medley laying beneath his strong vocals. It's the sort of simplistic love song fans have heard little from The Decemberists, but it's executed well with a melody that's as catchy as anything else the band has ever done.

Florasongs will be released in full on Oct. 9. Pre-orders for the EP are available now, as is "Why Would I Now?"

The Decemberists Florasongs Tracklist:

01. Why Would I Now?
