Disclosure and Lorde have unveiled the music video for their new collaboration "Magnets" taken from the "Omen" duo's new album Caracal. The track is among the many high-profile features on the LP that also includes the likes of Sam Smith, The Weeknd, Miguel and Gregory Porter.
The video is a roller coaster of emotions as Lorde stars in something quite different from the past three music videos that Disclosure have put out. The Lawrence brothers starred in the truth-seeking "Jaded" as they attempted to gain freedom from the authoritarian ruling class of society. There are hints of that in this video off in the distance, but it focuses on Lorde and her relationship with a man, who is tangled in a vicious love triangle.
Lorde is involved in a passionate relationship with this man that is physical for a good portion of the video. She is keenly aware of what appears to be the man's steady girlfriend, but is looking for the man to leave her for him. As she says in the chorus, "I love this secret language that we're speaking / Say it to me, let's embrace the point of no return."
It all ends suddenly with the man tied to a chair next to his pool outside of his large mansion where he hosts a large party the night before. Lorde pushes him in and decides to light him on fire. When the fire stars to burn, it starts to spread... well you know the rest. Moral of the story, don't mess with Lorde. It might be the last thing you do.
