If classic films like The Best Man can make a return to the big screen for a sequel, then why not add another great film like Soul Food, starring Nia Long and Vanessa Williams, to the list of films making a comeback? That's exactly what's happening as Fox 2000 is already working on the sequel and plans to bring back the original cast.

The family film was originally released in 1997 starring Long, Williams, Vivica A. Fox and Mekhi Phifer. According to The Wrap, almost 20 years later, Fox 2000 is ready to bring the family back together for a sequel that is reportedly already in the works.

George Tillman Jr., who wrote and directed the first script, is in the developing stages of writing the second one. As reported by the site "[Tillman will] return to write the sequel with Nathan Skulnik.

Although the 1997 film concluded with the death of the mother/grandmother of the family, the remaining family members/cast members will all be making their return for the sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new film will focus on the lives and families of the new generation of the Joseph family, who seem to have forgotten the importance of family and tradition. The site reports "in the age of cell phones and social media, the once-close clan finds themselves disconnected and without the guidance of the elders who have always held things together."

Tracey and Babyface Edmonds are also back on board to produce the film as they did with the original. They have also produced other projects like Jumping The Broom, With This Ring and Deion's Family Playbook.
