Earlier this week, feminist punk rockers Kitten Forever released a new song, "Temple," the first single off their forthcoming third full-length album, 7 Hearts, set to be released in early 2016 via Atlas Chair. Listen to "Temple" and check out their tour dates with feminist punk pioneers Babes in Toyland below.

As reported by Noisey, Minneapolis-based Kitten Forever have recently been gaining notoriety in the Midwest D.I.Y. scene for ushering in a new wave of Riot Grrrl. The all-female trio does not have a guitarist and uses a telephone for a microphone, resulting in an especially raw, lo-fi punk sound that juxtaposes the abrasive with the purely fun. One thing that sets Kitten Forever apart from the rest is their democratic approach to their lineup--even during live sets, Liz Elton, Corrie Harrigan, and Laura Larson play musical chairs on drums, bass, and vocals. PBS recently made a mini-documentary about them, which you can check out here:

While the drums and bass trio's politics and punk aesthetic echo the Riot Grrrl movement of the '90s, Kitten Forever are taking a somewhat more inclusive approach to feminist punk rock, as evidenced by their Beyonce cover set at the Girl Germs Tribute Show earlier this year, which you can view here:

As Rolling Stone reported when Babes in Toyland announced their reunion and subsequent tour last year, the grunge-era pioneers of the scene are too often overlooked when Riot Grrrl is discussed, so it only makes sense that they are teaming up with Kitten Forever for a brief tour starting next week. In the meantime, Kitten Forever is readying the release of 7 Hearts, which will be their third full-length. As Noisey reports, 7 Hearts promises to "hit that sweet spot between friendship and feminism" and manages to squeeze 15 songs into a mere 30 minutes.
