Mac DeMarco has received a lot of attention for his scruffy, slacker rock approach to his live performances and general lifestyle. Now, thanks to an unearthed childhood video from an avid Stereogum reader, we can confirm this isn't some shtick he puts on - DeMarco is just a weird dude. In the video simply titled "Charliebrown," DeMarco makes some weird faces and head bangs along to a quiet keyboard scream-singing "Charlie Brown, why'd you have to rape that sheep?" There's even a quick subliminal image at about 16 seconds in, which shows what appears to be him flashing the camera for a classic mirror selfie. The early 2000s was a hard time for us all Mac DeMarco.

Stereogum said they reached out to DeMarco's reps for verification of the video's validity, but haven't heard back yet. However, he does look a lot like the singer if you pull back those long teenage locks.

Although it's a good measure of his personality, thankfully this video doesn't serve too well as a window into the artist he'd grow up to be. His albums have made humble appearances on the Billboard 200 albums chart with his 2014 record Salad Days peaking at No. 30 and 2015's Another One at No. 25. But, with numerous festival appearances this year and critical acclaim behind him, DeMarco has struck a chord with his devoted fans.

Salad Days even landed at No. 9 on Rolling Stone's best albums of 2014 list, despite the publications notoriety for being out of touch with its end of the year lists.
