Red Hot Chili Peppers co-founder and bassist Flea (born Michael Balzary) has accomplished a lot in his 30-plus years in the spotlight. Known for his wild bass licks and for rocking tube socks and a Mohawk, Flea has performed at the Super Bowl, voice acted for Disney cartoons, played with The Mars Volta and Atoms for Peace, worked on soundtracks and even dabbled in acting. Now he's ready to tell us all about his journey.

As Time reports, Grand Central Publishing has announced the acquisition of Flea's memoir. No release date has been set, but according to a press release, the book, which Flea is writing sans ghostwriter, will explore his childhood and journey to the present day.

His move from a "normal" upbringing in the suburbs of New York to Los Angeles to live a bohemian life with a jazz musician step-father; his young, rebellious life on the streets of LA where he befriends Anthony Kiedis and founds the Red Hot Chili Peppers with Kiedis and two other high school friends; details about his sometimes complex friendship and collaboration with Kiedis; his myriad experiences with hard drugs; and, of course, the tumultuous creative journey of the legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers through its various incarnations over the last 30 years, according to Flea.

Flea will not be the first Chili Pepper to spill the details of his life. In 2004, frontman Anthony Kiedis released his autobiography Scar Tissue, which reached No. 1 on The New York Times "Best Seller List."
