Since the Amy Winehouse's unfortunate death, artists from around the world have given their take on a number of her songs, some even writing songs about her, but as you can imagine, nobody has come close to Sam Smith's latest passionate cover of the late singer's "Love is a Losing Game."

As Stereogum points out, during the interview below the singer told Annie of his inspiration for doing the cover. "I saw the film recently and, sometimes, people forget my age," he said. "I was 11 years old when Frank came out [...] and that album has really shaped me as an artist and my views on music and my relationship with music, lyrically. Seeing that film brought me back to that moment of being 11 years old - her rawness on such beautiful chords, on such expensive chords."

The UK pop singer's reinterpretation of the track will appear on the deluxe reissue of his outstanding 2014 debut album In the Lonely Hour (with (Drowning Shadows Edition) added to the title), which is being released today (November 6) on Capitol Records. In addition to the original 14-track album, the new release will also feature Smith's depressing new song "Drowning Shadows" (for which he referred to as his "saddest yet") as well as two more covers (in addition to "Love is a Losing Game"). His collaborative efforts with Mary J. Blige, John Legend and Disclosure will also appear on the release. You can purchase the elongated album today via iTunes.

As far as a new album is concerned, the singer recently told Entertainment Tonight that he is on a semi-hiatus before he begins to even think about a follow-up album. "I've been going now for three years nonstop and it feels right for me to just go home and just live my life and be a 23-year-old," he said. "My love life, the downs and ups, it never stops, so I'm always inspired by stuff like that, but it'd be good to spend some time dating."
