Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee has unleashed, in typical "My Immortal" fashion, a somewhat dark cover of U2's classic hit "With or Without You," ahead of the band's upcoming reunion performances.

The spooky version of the regularly arena rock hit is not Lee's first cover, with the singer previously putting her own spin on Portishead's "It's a Fire." The accompanying black-and-white video depicts the artist singing and recording at home in her own personal studio.

In a recent Facebook post, the singer elaborated on her inspiration for the song. "Sometimes I dream in music," Lee said. "The dark version of U2's immortal song was playing in my head as I woke up one morning. I was lingering in that half-awake, half-asleep place, with no images - just darkness, this song and huge emotions. As I was becoming conscious I kept thinking 'don't let it go, don't forget!' And I went straight upstairs and laid down the synth."

Evanescenece, whom were merely on a hiatus, not broken up contrary to popular belief, will reunite to perform at Ozzfest Japan, as well as a handful of shows in the U.S. over the next couple of weeks. "The truth is I love making music, and I'm going to make music for the rest of my life," Lee said last year. "Whether that means it's called Evanescence or not, I don't know, but I wouldn't worry about it if I were a fan."

The band, who recently parted ways with guitarist Terry Balsamo (replaced by Jen Majura), have not yet revealed plans to work on new music together. The good news, however, is that Lee had previously revealed that she has some of her own solo material that she'd like to release at some point.
