Alabama State was recently tricked into believing Lil Wayne would be performing at their homecoming celebration. Fake promoters promised the university an appearance from the New Orleans rapper. Alabama State has issued a statement regarding the incident.

Yardayn Watkins, co-founder of Millennium Age (the Alabama State organization responsible for booking the homecoming entertainment), said, "It's disheartening to share that MAC recently learned the booking agent we partnered with for this performance never actually reached out to Lil Wayne's team, even after being paid per contract."

As AllHipHop reports, Millennium Age (MAC) partnered with a booking agent who told the organization he had connections with Lil Wayne. The agent promised he could book Wayne as the headliner for Alabama State's homecoming concert. The organization prepared a booking contract, and paid Lil Wayne's fee. In the weeks leading up to the event, ticket sales took place and promotions with Wayne's name on them were plastered around campus. Unbeknown to MAC, the agent had never reached out to Lil Wayne.

The statement continues, "We apologize to those who felt victimized, hurt or thwarted, as we are now experiencing those feelings ourselves. We'd like to extend our gratitude to those who worked hard on the show, and hope to reconcile our good faith with the students and fans at Alabama State University."

In addition to the University's statements, Lil Wayne's manager Cortez Bryant issued a statement as well regarding the dishonest promotions. "Fake promoters are the lowest of people on this earth because they are damaging the integrity of artist and most important hurting the fans who are expecting to see their favorite artist," he said. "I'm now in contact with Alabama State University and will do everything in my power to work with them to persecute whoever was behind this. It's not fair to the college students."
