It looks like Gremlins 3 is still happening! Earlier this week Zach Galligan, who played the protagonist in the initial two films, was involved in a Q&A session with fans while screening the 1984 original film at Prince Charles Cinema in London. According to E! News, Galligan confirmed a sequel is definitely in the works and compared the production's team new take on the movie to the 2015 box-office hit, Jurassic World.

The 51-year-old actor played Billy Peltzer in the horror-comedy classic. During the interview, Galligan adamantly explained Gremlins 3 will not be considered a reboot or a remake of the film. Instead, the production team is looking to take a different approach to the story line, by reinventing it.

Rumors about a sequel to film have been floating around Hollywood for almost a year now and the confusion can finally be put to rest. Chris Columbus, writer of the original script for the first film, will act as the producer for the third installment.

Despite his decision to stray away from 1990's Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Columbus told Slashfilm he's eager to bring the creatures back to the big screen due to the story's new direction.

"Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade," Galligan said during the Q&A. "So the only thing they will be, and apparently are going to be doing, is something along the lines of like Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later."

For those unfamiliar with the cult classic film, Gremlins surrounds Billy's new adorable furry pet, a Mogwai named Gizmo. Billy soon learns the upkeep to maintain this creature is a lot of work and comes with some crazy instructions.

There are three rules to follow when caring for a Mogwai: don't get them wet, don't feed them after midnight, and don't expose them to sunlight. Billy disregarded the first instruction, causing little demons to mutate from Gizmo. Ultimately, all hell broke loose as the evil spawns reeked havoc in this city.

Galligan went on to tell the audience, there will be several references to events that happened in the first movie. Some of the original characters are expected to make an appearance, but Galligan isn't sure if his role will be reprised.

"I swear on my life, I don't know if I'm in it or not, but I think there is probably a decent chance since I'm one of the few people left standing from the first movie," Galligan said.

An official release date for Gremlins 3 has yet to be announced.
