Slipped Disc: Julian Lloyd Webber Forced to Retire from Cello
Sad news for cello fans, and just fans of Julian Lloyd Webber, of whom there are many. The cellist and tireless advocate for musical outreach has announced that he is to give up playing the cello.
It is an enforced but seemingly permanent break due, says Lloyd Webber in a statement, to a herniated disc in his neck which has effected the power in his right arm. "I have no intention of enduring the restroom, though," he says, "I would like to use the knowledge I have gained through my life as a musician and an educator to give back as much as I can to the music profession which has given me so much over the years."
