Bastille frontman Dan Smith has shared a new update regarding his band's brand new album, stating that it takes a more "cinematic" approach, oh, that and it has a song about gangsters.

The new update came during an interview with Billboard, where the singer stated: "We've just been very busy writing and recording a lot of new music... We've written a whole album, we've got 25 songs, give or take."

He then explained how not all 25 songs will appear on the album, but that the new album could be one of "three or four" albums and the band is currently figuring out which of the records this particular one will be.

"When we started the album, this is more than a year ago, it was alternative R&B, a lot more electronic," Smith added. "then we went down a heavier rock route as well, then we almost came full circle back around to what we did the first record, more cinematic, then we did a load of horns, so it could be a lot of different things."

He explained the importance of making the album memorable and something that's an interesting and noticeable progression from the last, which is why they will continue to chip away at the work before naming it or giving it an official release.

"We have the name of [the album] in our heads, we've got the concept, I think thematically, in the last few months, it really came together and that's nice 'cause a lot of the songs are quite narrative," he stated. "There's a gangster-related song, so we've found the thing that brings it all together and that's quite satisfying."

According to NME, while performing a surprise set at Glastonbury this summer, Bastille debuted a song from the new album titled "Hangin'" which they later released for streaming. The new song will most likely appear on the upcoming follow-up to their debut 2013 LP Bad Blood, which featured their hit single "Pompeii."
