Plenty of blame has been put on the cast and crew of True Detective season 2 for the show's poor ratings and bad reviews, but HBO President of Programming, Michael Lombardo, thinks we should all blame one person in particular: him! After the success of creator Nic Pizzolatto's first season of the true crime series, Lombardo says the downfalls of the second season are on him. Check out what the HBO executive had to say below.

Speaking of True Detective season 2, check out our exclusive interview with singer-songwriter Lera Lynn, who worked with T. Bone Burnett and Roseanne Cash on a number of songs for the series, and even appeared in a few episodes.

Speaking to The Frame recently about his network and the downfalls of this show's second season, Lombardo points the blame at himself due to the pressure he put on Pizzolatto to deliver new episodes.

"I think in this particular case, the first season of True Detective was something that Nic Pizzolatto had been thinking about, gestating, for a long period of time. He's a soulful writer. I think what we did was go, 'Great.' And I take the blame. I became too much of a network executive at that point," he explained, according to IGN. "We had huge success. 'Gee, I'd love to repeat that next year.' Well, you know what? I set him up. To deliver, in a very short time frame, something that became very challenging to deliver. That's not what that show is. He had to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. Find his muse. And so I think that's what I learned from it. Don't do that anymore."

Hopefully this experience doesn't repeat itself, but we'll have to wait and see.
