Good Charlotte have officially revealed their plans for a brand new studio album due for release near the end of this year, and it's being described as somewhat of a throwback release.

The new album would serve as a follow-up to 2010's Cardiology, marking the band's first new music in six years, and if it's anything like the band's 2002 album The Young and the Hopeless, pop-punk fans everywhere are sure to rejoice. During the band's hiatus, brothers Joel and Benji Madden had released a more pop-inspired solo album under the fitting moniker The Madden Brothers, so this is sure to be a change of pace.

“It feels like the GC of the past, but there’s a new energy to it," Joel said in a recent interview with Alternative Press. "We made the record with John Feldmann, who we’ve never been able to make a full record with before, so there’s a lot of energy there. It wasn’t a record where we had to think about the radio, so it’s really a record we just want to play live. There’s something really alive about it. It feels really vital."

The band began their recent surprise reunion with a social media campaign under the hashtag #WelcomeBackGC, which piqued the scene's curiosity. They soon after released a new song titled "Makeshift Love," inevitably followed by an official music video. In the video, the band helps to promote a faux app that will breakup with your significant other for you.

Good Charlotte, who have always been keen on mentoring bands, have been working closely with All Time Low and 5 Seconds of Summer as of late, not only releasing a Christmas song for charity, but also booking an opening slot for All Time Low's upcoming European tour dates.

Since official details regarding the new Good Charlotte album have yet to be announced, fans can entertain the possibility of a featured track involving one or both of those bands.
