Michael Bloomberg is a man who will not quit. This is pretty well illustrated by his previous insistence that he remain in office as the mayor of New York City for an unprecedented third term. Now, it appears the billionaire business magnate is considering a run for the highest office in the country.

Bloomberg "was intrigued enough by the prospect of Donald Trump's becoming the Republican standard-bearer that he commissioned a poll last month testing how he would fare against Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, according to two sources close to Bloomberg," as was reported by the New York Times.

Bloomberg has described himself as an independent. He has shown a record that is largely pro-business and economic growth, while remaining socially liberal (some say to a fault). The former mayor's tax on sugary drinks in New York City angered many who felt it was a classic example of government overreach.

"He led the largest city in the country as it prospered for a dozen years, and to see this guy who is all talk seize control of the apple cart is galling to him," a friend of Bloomberg's told the National Review last fall.

Speculation continues, however, as Bloomberg has expressed reticence in his willingness to leave Bloomberg L.P."I think I've got a better job than the president's. He's got a very tough Congress, and he's removed from the day-to-day stuff. My job is the day-to-day stuff. That's what I'm good at-or at least what I think I'm good at," he said.

However, the clock is ticking for Bloomberg, who will have to announce before the first presidential primaries on February 1st. Although, if Bloomberg chooses to run as an independent or a third-party candidate he will have until March to announce his bid for the presidency.
