Empire has been renewed for Season 3 at Fox. The announcement was made on Friday (Jan. 15) and follows Taraji P. Henson’s Golden Globe win.

According to Variety, chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, Dana Walden and Gary Newman, revealed the renewal at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California.

Despite its decline in ratings from its first season, Empire remained the top-rated broadcast series in adults 18-49 during the first half of its second season. It also ranks as the most-tweeted broadcast TV series.

On Sunday (Jan. 10), Henson, who stars as Cookie Lyon on the series, took home her first Golden Globe for Best TV Drama Actress. Though the series didn’t win for best drama, Empire was the only broadcast show nominated in the major drama or comedy categories at the award show.

Empire is currently on mid-season hiatus but is scheduled to return to Fox in the spring. On the winter finale, fittingly titled "Et Tu, Brute?,” things took a shocking turn for the Lyon clan. Lucious and his family were blindsided by betrayal and double-dealing. Camilla, played by Naomi Campbell, made her return in a surprising way and Hakeem solidified his resentment towards his father. Elsewhere, Anika did the unthinkable.

This current season of Empire has been a star-studded run, full of drama. Vivica A. Fox has appeared on the show as the oldest sister of Cookie. Other previous guest stars include Chris Rock and Alicia Keys. Also, Marisa Tomei stars as a business partner with a recurring role. Lee Daniels previously confirmed that he has written roles for dream guest-star, Oprah Winfrey, and Oscar-winner, Common.

As noted by HipHopDX, Empire is slated to return to Fox on March 30.
